Spring flavors vary by region, and with global farming taking care of specific crops, people can expect to see vernal fruits in grocery stores around the same time. From the vast selection of citrus to a medley of berry options, this season brings a vibrant palette of fruit flavors in food and beverages.

Citrus
No need to go to the orchard to pick oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits, as these fruits can be found in your local grocery store or farmers’ market. While some of these fruits are available year-round, such as oranges, some are ending their season in spring, such as blood oranges, mandarins, lemons, and grapefruits. Limes are beginning their season this time of year and going up until summer. These citrus fruits are noticed for the zesty and refreshing flavor profile they bring to food and drinks. Perfect for infusing in sauces, marinades, and dressings, these citrus flavors are also good in sparkling waters, cocktails, juices, and more!

Berries
It’s berry-picking season—well, for boysenberries and strawberries, that is. These juicy berry gems are known for their sweet and subtly acidic flavor profile, which makes them a perfect addition to desserts, salads, purees, drinks, and marmalades. Their sweet aroma fulfills the freshly picked experience, along with the vibrant color they add to the mix.

Tropical
While it’s not yet summer, some tropical fruits are in season, from pineapples, mangos, and lychee to the annually available bananas, coconuts, papayas, and passionfruit. These exotic fruits are revered for their floral, sweet, and juicy taste. Get transported to sunny beaches through tropical flavors in refreshing beverages, candies, sauces, and chutneys.

Stone Fruits
Known for having a pit in their center, stone fruits are plentiful in the market. Apricots, avocados, cherries, loquats, peaches, and plums are in season and perfect for spring dishes. These fruits are ideal for sweet and savory preparations and can be used in baked goods, glazes, spreads, and snacks. Moreover, they can add depth to juices, sports drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

Fun Fact:
A fun fact about lychee is that it’s often referred to as the “King of Fruits” in some parts of the world, particularly in Southeast Asia where it’s native. This nickname stems from its esteemed status in Chinese culture, where it has been cultivated for over 2,000 years. Additionally, the lychee holds significance in Chinese festivals and is often associated with good luck and prosperity.
Fun Fact:
There are over 7,500 known varieties of apples, with a significant number being harvested in late autumn and available throughout the winter. Apples are incredibly versatile and can be used in a wide range of culinary applications, from savory dishes to sweet desserts.
